'Invasion!' is a series set in the near future (1999 for a strip published in 1977) where Britain has been invaded by Volgan for their oil (Volgan are Soviet lookalike) and lies in anguish under the boot-heel of tyranny. The royal Family has fled to exile in Canada where the resistance is begin to organise itself. Lorry driver Bill Savage returns to London to find a stray shell has destroyed his family home, killing his wife and kids. Out of an act of vengeance he will become the leader of the inland resistance.
The series was created by Pat Mills (with a great amount of help from Doug Church 2000 AD art designer) following outlines given by John Sanders, IPC publisher. But right after the first arc of five strips co-scripted by Gerry Finley-Day (with input from Kelvin Gosnell), Pat Mills let the destiny of Bill Savage in the sole hands of Gerry. Note that Bill Savage has also been the hero of a prequel series called 'Disaster 1990' that has nothing to do with Pat Mills.
